One of the gems of Cyprus, hidden away in the forest of Prodromos is unfortunately off limits due to its high risk of collapsing.

Located in the village of Prodromos in the province of Limassol, the Berengaria Hotel has been subject of mystery throughout the years attracting many visitors who tease adrenaline rush.
Hotel's history
The hotel took its name from Queen Berengaria who was the wife of King Richard the LionHeart.
The hotel was built by Mr. Kokkalis and started hosting visitors in 1934. The hotel was famous for hosting famous guests include Pharouk, the King of Egypt. In addition some of his first visitors was the Prime Minster of the United Kingdom Winston Churchill. The hotel eventually closed in 1984 after it began losing money.
Story says that two female ghosts roam the hotel. One of them was found dead in the swimming pool and still hangs around in an effort to avenge her death, and the other who is a young woman is dressed in white linen which is said to be seen leaning against one of the windows at sunset!
Since 1984, the hotel has been a vacant place which many believe is haunted. If you ask us, the aura that embraces the hill of Verengaria and the hotel itself raises apprehension. Just one visit to the hotel and you will probably agree with us.

According to the legend all three borthers died mysteriously. Legend also says that a manager killed himself at the hotel adding to the conspiracy theories that the hotel is haunted

Things to note:
Due to the fact that the hotel has been abandonment for more than 30 years, there are warning signs outside the entrance warning about the threat of entering the property since some parts of the building are collapsing. It is very unstable.
If you are interested, during this time writing this article 11/11/2019, the current owner of the historic Berengaria hotel, Bank of Cyprus, has put the hotel on sale for €2,36 million 🙂
If you do end up visiting this abandoned hotel, it's also worth visiting Kykkos Monastrery which is near Prodromos village too.
