Cyprus Passion

Afelia, a traditional Cypriot dish, is a flavourful marinated pork dish that is cooked in red wine and coriander seeds. This dish is popular throughout the island and is often served during special occasions and family gatherings. This recipe is easy to follow and can be made with just a few simple ingredients. Ingredients needed to cook Afelia:

  • 1kg of pork fillet cut in small pieces

  • 2 Cups of red dry wine

  • 3 tablespoons Dried coriander (crashed)

  • Pepper to taste

  • Salt to taste

  • About 1/3 of a cup of olive oil

  • ½ cup of water

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the pork fillet with the wine, pepper and coriander overnight or at least two to three hours before cooking.

  2. Heat the olive oil in a deep pot and add the meat with all liquids from the marinade and ½ cup of water. Add also salt to taste.

  3. Lower the heat and let it cook for about 1 hour. Add more water if necessary until the meat is cooked and is tender.

*In the case you want to add potatoes in your food, fry the potatoes in a separate pan and then add them to the meat about 10 minutes before is done.
